Neighborhood

Hudson Heights

In the ever-challenging search to discover the next up-and-coming
neighborhood in New York City, one such area has already arrived while
still remaining a virtual hidden gem. Hudson Heights, a subsection of
Washington Heights, extends north from 181st Street to Fort Tryon
Park, west to spectacular views of the Hudson River, and east to
Broadway.

Unlike the concrete jungle that Manhattan is well known for, Hudson
Heights offers a picturesque respite from the skyscrapers and the
hustle and bustle of midtown life. With gentle elevations and diverse
topography not seen anywhere else on the island, Hudson Heights is an
ideal location for those who value space and aesthetics as much as the
convenience of a short commute. Just 20 minutes from midtown on the
express A-train, this neighborhood truly makes it possible to live in
Manhattan without sacrificing comfort or convenience.

Mostly residential, Hudson Heights is not without its share of
culture, fine dining and public outdoor spaces. Located in historic
Fort Tryon Park, The Cloisters Museum and Gardens is the medieval art
extension of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. With its world famous
Unicorn Tapestries, the Cloisters, much like the neighborhood that
houses it, is a treasure unknown to most Manhattanites.  Conveniently
nestled on 181st and 187th streets are a variety of individually owned
restaurants, groceries and bodegas featuring many organic and
farm-fresh options, not to mention the ubiquitous Starbucks. All of
this is just a short walk from the famous Little Red Lighthouse
underneath the George Washington Bridge, and Bennett Park, a
children-friendly area that, at 265 feet above sea level, marks the
highest point in Manhattan.

With both an appreciation of the past and an eye toward the future,
economic development in the area is bringing with it modern, luxury
apartments as well as new retail space. Hands down, Hudson Heights is
Manhattan’s best kept secret for buyers and renters.
